The You Are Here Festival kicked off this weekend, offering ten days of exhibitions, performances, screenings and happenings offering over 100 artists exposure in more than 20 venues in Nottingham.
Celebrating the best in contemporary art from city, region and globe, the second edition of the Festival promises to further explore Nottingham's thriving creative scene and strengthen its position as a regional centre of international artistic significance.
This year You Are Here unveils its own Central Venue (a former toy shop) that will play home to installations, live art, information and a Festival Shop where you can purchase your own mini-piece of artwork by those participating.
Over the 10 days, the festival has something for everyone, from guided tours of artists' studios, to outdoor activities in the historic grounds of Nottingham Castle and hidden masterpieces in city charity shops. Venues this year include the Lakeside Arts Centre and Bonington Gallery and also new spaces such as St Mary's Church in the Lace Market.
The Festival originates from a recognised need by arts practitioners and venues for a central platform for Nottingham's artistic activity and its international partnerships.
John Newling, international artist and a participant in the inaugural festival in 2003, affirms: "This year the team have brought together a plethora of artists who will give us thrilling experiences galore. Expect to be bewildered, bothered and above all bewitched."
