Carolina Lelis was born in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, but grew up in the city of São Paulo. In 2016, prompted by her partner, she began putting together her solo album ‘Live’. The recording is a concert with some of the best Jazz musicians of São Paulo like Cuca Teixeira, Djalma Lima, Itamar Collaço (ex Zimbo Trio). The album features songs that talk about anxiety, love and hope.
Carolina’s influence from Brazilian music, R&B and Jazz is heard in her arrangements and melodies. Two years after releasing her album she was invited to participate in The Voice Brasil. She auditioned with a samba classic “Barracão de Zinco” famously sung by Elizete Cardoso which got her into the competition. She went on to the next phase of battles singing “Madalena” famously sung by MPB legend Elis Regina.
In 2018 amidst political chaos in Brazil, Carolina and her partner, bassist Julio de Castro started Saint Rose, a project expressing their political stance. They recorded the album and moved to London in 2019. Since moving to the UK she has joined the Brazilian Music band Sambossa, travelling all over Britain to sing classics of her homeland. She is one of the most sought after Brazilian music singers in the UK and was invited to join resident band Samara at The 606 Club. In 2022 she and her partner joined a tribute to Brazilian soul legend Tim Maia at The Jazz Cafe. The show was well received and went back in 2023 for a second round.
Carolina’s music is playful and romantic. She is bringing her show to Peggy’s accompanied by friends Emile Hinton on piano, Jansen Santana on percussion and her musical director Julio de Castro. She’ll be singing her own compositions as well as a selection of her favourite music from Brazilian Music to Blues and Jazz.
