Ernesto “Renán” Uquillas
Guitarist and singer, Ernesto Renán developed his artistic career in Caracas, Venezuela. He started on television (Channel 8) as a singer with the Arnaldo Naly Orchestra and legendary drummer & percussionist, Frank “El Pavo” Hernández. He then began playing with the “Los Melódicos” Orchestra, a Latin Big Band, as a singer performing across South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina), Central America (Panama, Costa Rica) and New York. He later joined the jazz trio of Julián Romero, who he played with for a year in Acapulco, Mexico as a guitarist and singer for the group Los Corsarios.
Returning to Caracas, Venezuela, Renán worked with pianist Oscar “El Negro” Maggi, legendary vibraphonist and percussionist Freddy Roldán and became a residency guitarist and singer at a famous and prestigious jazz club called Juan Sebastián Bar.
His esteemed career has taken him to all the major jazz clubs in Caracas, such as Fedora Jazz and Mayfair Station and has worked with endless world-class musicians including Paquito d’Rivera, Pedro López’ (pianist and band leader) and accompanied the Brazilian singer Lenny Andrade.
Renán and Edgar Macías have worked together internationally on many occasions including in Venezuela, Madrid, Birmingham and aboard the Queen Victoria ship, the Cunard line and the Queen’s Room Orchestra.
