Zaap
A relative newcomer, Zaap’s interior has to be seen – it expertly recreates the bustling streets of a Thai city. Select three starters to share, including the ubiquitous satay chicken or the more adventurous Golden Money Bags (tung tong) – minced chicken and water chestnuts in a crispy wonton casing. There’s something for all tastes on the mains selection including stir fries, Thai green curries or whole sea bass. Dessert is also included in the price.
Friday 12 - Sunday 14 February, £20 per person or £24 with glass of prosecco

Rocket at Saltwater
Take your relationship up a level or two and dine on a five-course meal 100ft up at Rocket, on the top level of The Cornerhouse. Their Valentine’s menu is a glorious combination of English and Mediterranean influences, mainly from Spain and Italy. Starters include pork and black pudding rissoles or a classic sharing antipasto board. A palate-cleansing lemon sorbet proceeds the main courses. There are British options of sirloin steak or herb-crusted lamb rump with celeriac mash, or you could stick to the Med and opt for chicken stuffed with mozzarella, sun-dried tomato and mascarpone risotto, or ricotta gnocchi.

The Larder on Goosegate
If you’re looking for classic British done extremely well then The Larder on Goosegate is the one. Their valentines menu reads like a list of incredible british ingredients: cornish mackerel, Gloucestershire old spot pork and lemon sole. The vegetables have also got a local postcode with parsnips, pears, heritage beets and flowering sprouts. The Larder specialises in steak so this was always going to make an appearance on the menu, in the form of picanha steak, the most prized cut in Brazil served with chips, tarragon butter, and wild rocket.
Friday 12 - Sunday 14 February, £42.50 per person

The Rum House
If you fancy lots of tasty little nibbles on Valentine's Day, you could ask your other half nicely and they might oblige… by treating you to tapas at The Rum House. Starting with a glass of Prosecco and a selection of canapes, then selecting six tapas from a specially designed menu including king scallops and chorizo with cauliflower puree, jerk-spiced beef medallions and sauteed sweet potato with feta and rosemary. Dessert is included with a choice of sticky banana pudding or exotic fruit salad. They’re rather good at cocktails too...

Calcutta Club
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Calcutta Club, one of the last venues on the Nottingham curry strip we’d not tried, and it was an absolute delight. Their Valentine’s menu includes some things that aren’t on their a la carte menu, including ostrich tikka and tandoori scallops – serious wow factor The main courses include many of the dishes you’d expect to see but I love the sound of hyderabadi chicken dham biriyani – slow-cooked chicken fillet and basmati rice with glazed onions, fresh mint leaves and coriander. The price includes the full dining experience of poppadums, starter, palate cleanser, main course, rice, naan bread and dessert.

The Hockley Arts Club
If you’ve not seen The Hockley Arts Club yet then you’re in for a treat, the interior is nothing shy of epic and will make for a special setting for your Valentine’s dinner. A small but perfectly formed menu of four starters, four mains and four desserts to choose from, the guys at the club pride themselves on using locally sourced ingredients. Mention to “the Mrs” that chocolate and sticky toffee muffin served with chocolate chip ice cream appears on the menu and the starters and mains will become mere formalities.
Sunday 14 February, two courses £24.50, three courses £29.50
