This week Nottingham is bringing you music galore, kicking it off with BRIT Award winners Kings of Leon on Monday night. Then, later on in the week, the first LeftLion Live Podcast with The Petebox, and local acts from Acoustickle and Cultural Vibrations will come together for 15th anniversary showcases. Plus we have an exciting day of talks, that will celebrate women in S.T.E.M, a comedy night and much more.

Leftlion Live at the Library: #1 the Petebox

We at LeftLion are starting a new thing: a series of live interviews at Nottingham Central Library with some of our favourite artists from or connected to Notts.

Our first interview is with THe PETEBOX, a solo performer, musician, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist originally from Nottingham. PETEBOX's pioneering live show has ignited audiences across the world and he was recently a Semi-Finalist on ITV’s talent show The Voice. Join us for an evening talking about music, creativity and Nottingham.

Kings of Leon

Following the release of their latest album - Can We Please Have Fun, Kings of Leon are back for a world tour. The American Alt-Rock band found will be joined by UK indie favourite The Vaccines for a night that is sure to be “On Fire.” Tickets are still available, but be quick, you don’t want to miss this one.

Show & Tell at The Carousel

Calling all creatives! The Carousel’s community space will be hosting an opportunity for you to bring your art, in an engaging ‘show and tell’ atmosphere. Artists are encouraged to have an open discussion, and provide feedback to one another. Plus, it will be a chance to meet fellow artists, share ideas and add to your network.

NCF Canalhouse Comedy Night

When: Wednesday 10 July | 19:00

Who doesn’t need a hump day pick me up? Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, NCF puts on the Canalhouse Comedy Night. Come and witness established acts practise their latest content. Or even a chance to support up and coming comedians, before they become the next big star.

The Society of Authors Presents: Christy Fearn

When: Thursday 11th July | 11:00
Where: Nottingham Central Library

Here’s one for local historians and literary lovers… Christy Fearn will be telling the story of Lord Byron’s life and fame through a lecture-cum-performance. It will include his letters and notable poetry from his extensive portfolio. Audience members are invited to bring along their favourite Byron work, to share with the group and discuss any thoughts and feelings.

Acoustickle Summer Showcase

When: Friday 12 July, 19:30
Where: Nottingham Playhouse
How much: Tickets starting from £10

Acoustickle has produced live music and spoken word events in Nottingham. On Friday to mark their 15th anniversary, they will be showcasing an evening of soulful talent, in an intimate setting for you to lose yourself in. The line up will include Cara Thompson, Nottingham Contemporary Choir, and headliner CAPPO, who will be performing an exclusive live band set. There will be food on offer before the showcase, plus an after party, complete with a DJ for those that don’t want the night to end.

Soapbox Science Nottingham

A day to shine a light on women academics and scientists from Nottinghamshire. Held in Speakers Corner, twelve inspirational talks will take place to promote women in S.T.E.M and the work that they do. Onlookers expect to be engaged in groundbreaking research, learn and debate, as the speakers challenge traditional gender stereotypes.

Cultural Vibrations - 15 Year Anniversary

When: Saturday 13 July
Where: Nottingham Playhouse
How much: £14

The anniversary celebrations continue into the weekend; join Cultural Vibrations founder Rastarella, as she puts on an evening of vibrant, live music from Jamaica, Africa and India. Founded in 2009, Cultural Vibrations have certainly made their mark in Nottingham, as a leading promoter in global-roots music. Rastarella’s work has changed the game for our city’s cultural music scene, by giving African and Caribbean artists the representation they deserve. Grammy nominated Tippa Irie will be headlining the night of talent. The evening will be followed by an after party hosted by DJ Suga Lion, completely free of charge.

Picnic in the Park

When: Sunday 14 July | 12:00-16:00
Where: Greens Mill and Park
How much: Free

Who doesn’t love a picnic, a quintessential element to every British summer, and this one comes with extras too. As a part of Sneinton Festival, you are invited to come down, bring your blanket and favourite sarnies, whilst you enjoy the entertainment. Activities include live music, dancers, a tombola, free games and tours around the Mill. There will also be a small selection of cakes and drinks on offer for a small fee. Let’s all keep our fingers and toes crossed that the sun comes out for this one!
