With BBC Introducing’s Tom Hewitt and Riley Marsh making appearances in Acoustic Rooms, to 130 years of War of the Worlds and a Broadway classic making its way to Nottingham's Theatre Royal, there is a lot going on this week in Nottingham so make sure to clear your calendars…

Chicago

The classic 70s musical takes over the Theatre Royal this month, this time starring Janette Manrara of Strictly Come Dancing fame. Set in the eponymous city back in the 1920s, Chicago tells the story of nightclub dancer Roxie Hart, who after killing her on-the-side lover seeks to avoid conviction with help of lawyer Billy Flynn. Featuring all of the expected, legendary show tunes like All that Jazz and Razzle Dazzle, this show promises one of the most transporting nights at the theatre possible.

Acoustic Rooms is hosting its second single release show of the year with not one but two BBC Introducing acts. With Laurie Illingworth hosting musical talent from Nottingham and beyond, Tom Hewitt and his band will be gracing the stage in celebration of his latest single release Colour Box. A full band showcase alongside support from the talented Riley Marsh, makes this the best way to kick start your week. Whether you are performing or supporting local talent, Acoustic Rooms is the place to be this coming Monday.

Collage N' Cocktails

When: Wednesday 9 April
Where: The Carousel

Whether you're an aspiring artist or someone who just loves to paint outside the lines, make sure to head down to The Carousel this Wednesday to release your inner Mister Maker. Collage N’ Cocktails returns to Hockley promising a trunk load of inspiring collage material and a range of cocktails and mocktails to help get those creative juices flowing. Bring your friends or go solo as you embark on your newfound artistic journey. Or just go for the cocktails. Either one is fine…

War of the Worlds 

When: Thurs 10 April 
Where: Motorpoint Arena

US composer Jeff Wayne’s acclaimed musical adaptation of War of the Worlds will come to Nottingham this month, showcased in as spectacular a format as possible at Motorpoint Arena. Featuring some compelling holographic additions to the production, such as vocals from Enter Shikari’s Rou Reynolds and Liam Neeson as the protagonist (known only as ‘the journalist’) and many immersive special effects, the show’s current tour marks 130 years since the seminal sci-fi story was published.

Crime Club

When: Thurs 10 April
Where: National Justice Museum 
How Much: £12 - £14 

Real crimes. Real stories. Real evidence. The last executions to take place in Nottingham occurred in the 1920s but not all of those who met the noose in the city were from the city. Discover their crimes and how execution itself ended in Nottingham. Take your seat in the famous Victorian Civil Courtroom at the National Justice Museum and watch the action unfold. The March instalment of this event sold out quickly, so don't hang around.

Primal Scream

Where: Rock City

Primal Scream, supported by Baxter Dury, bring their UK Come Ahead tour to Nottingham’s Rock City this Saturday.. Frontman Bobby Gillespie is joined by guitarist Andrew Innes, bassist Simone Butler and drummer Darrin Mooney in delivering tracks from their news release Come Ahead The Remixes Volume 1, as well as electrifying classics from the band’s back catalogue. Primal Scream are known for their unique sound, blending rock, psychedelia and dance music, and this night of vibrant live music at Rock City will be no different!

Kinoteka on Tour: Farewells

Where: Broadway Cinema

Farewells is screening at Broadway Cinema as part of Kinoteka on Tour: a captivating showcase of historic and contemporary Polish cinema across the UK. The year is 1939 and, defying the wishes of his conservative family, bourgeois student Pawel flees to the countryside with cynical dancer Lidka. Their plans are foiled first by their families, and then by the tragic onset of war. Years later, the pair have reconnected, reflecting on the traumas they have suffered since parting and questioning their capacity to love again. Whether you’re an expert or novice when it comes to Polish cinema, Farewells is sure to take you away.
