War Horse
The iconic musical is finally coming to Nottingham. Based on Michael Morpurgo’s best-selling and much loved novel, this is a heart-wrenching tale of the relationship between a boy and his horse, set against the backdrop of WW1 battlefields. As the war breaks out, Albert’s horse Joey is sold to the Cavalry and taken to France to fight. Young Albert vows to bring him home, embarking on the mission of his life. The production, which started at the National Theatre, is famous for its use of life-size puppet horses, made by the Handspring Puppet Company in South Africa. This is the play’s second UK national tour, commemorating its tenth anniversary.

Eos Encore - Vincent Van Gogh: A New Way of Seeing
This award-winning documentary from David Bickerstaff delves into the troubled artist’s life for a comprehensive yet completely fresh perspective. The ninety-minute film takes you behind the scenes of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, presenting its extensive collection in a new light. Curators and researchers at the museum closely worked with Bickerstaff on the film, which features exclusive interviews with the curatorial team, and Vincent’s letters to his family and friends are dramatized, revealing the his inner life. Learn about the legendary painter’s life from birth to death and all the creative madness in between.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Phil Daniels takes on the role of the iconic literary split personality. Dr. Henry Jekyll begins a mysterious experiment on himself, splitting his personality in two, setting himself on a course of chaos and bringing a reign of terror on the streets of London. This is a co-production with the Touring Consortium Theatre Company and the Rose Theatre Kingston, directed by Kate Saxon. Phil Daniels has previously starred as Jimmy Cooper in Quadrophenia and Kevin Wicks in EastEnders.

Panel Discussion: Contemporary Art and the Landscape Sublime
Ahead of the Scaling the Sublime exhibition, which opens on Friday 23 March, Lakeside Arts Centre has invited four of the artists for a panel discussion. Co-curator of the exhibition Nicholas Alfrey will be joined by participating artists Simon Faithfull, Tim Knowles, Mariele Neudecker and Rebecca Partridge. The exhibition explores elements of Romanticism in contemporary art, and the perpetual obsession with the Landscape Sublime. The discussion is followed by a preview of the exhibition. The Art of the Hip Hop Album Cover
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that hip hop albums have some of the best cover art. They have contributed immensely to, and helped shape, visual pop culture. In this free workshop, our mate and Nottingham-based illustrator Emily Catherine explores the stories behind some legendary covers, and takes you through their journeys from initial idea to finished work. You will also get the opportunity to create your own album cover with Emily’s guidance, who specialises in hand-drawn and painted illustrations. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced illustrators – get stuck in, duck.
