Nusic Academy Workshop and Advice Fair: Getting Media Exposure
Our dear friends over at Nusic are proud to present another of their ever-so popular advice workshops. Brought to you as part of Confetti ICT’s Industry Week - as the only event open to the general public - this one is all about getting media exposure for you or your band. Joining them for a live Q&A will be Radio 1 and 1Xtra producer Kate Holder, Radio X's head of music Mike Walsh, Radio 1's Rock Show DJ Daniel P Carter, and 1xtra DJ Sian Anderson, all geared up and ready to give their best advice. After that, they’ll be a freshers fair-style section with loads of ‘musician helping’ organisations, like Art Council England, Forever Records and BBC Introducing, for you to chat to. Bring along a demo if yerve got one and try and bag that radio play.

100 Years On: The Long Road to Gender Equality
To coincide with International Women’s Day, Centenary Cities Nottingham are bringing together a panel of high profile women from Nottingham to discuss the challenges faced by modern women. It’s been 100 years since women gained the vote, however it is clear that we still do not have parity with men in the public or private sphere - a fact this symposium is keen to address. The chair for the evening will be Sarah Julian, co-presenter of the breakfast show on BBC Radio Nottingham and panelists include Sandy Mahal from City of Literature and UoN’s president and vice chancellor, Professor Shearer West. The event is open to everyone - both women and men - and there’ll be time for a spot of networking at the end. It’s time for change.

Women in Music
It’s no secret that when it comes to gender diversity in the music industry, the numbers are grim. Rescue Rooms have rounded up a load of really cool musical ladies to discuss this imbalance by partaking in a selection of interviews and panel discussions. Attending will be the likes of London Grammar’s tour manager Carlina Gugliotta, BBC Radio Nottingham’s Verity Cowley, DHP’s marketing manager Anwyn Williams, our girl Nina Smith and so many more. By creating an environment that encourages open discussions, they’re hoping to create a platform for positive change and maybe even spark action. Tickets are a fiver - or three quid for students - but all proceeds are being donated to Equation, the Notts charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse and sexual violence. We can’t wait.

VR Music Night with Kwoli Black + Unknown Era + Vega Bay
Technology is going to take over the bleddy world, int it? It will slowly but surely seep into every aspect of our lives, until one day we’ll all float down the street like those chair-bound square-eyed folk from Wall-E. Technology’s latest victim? Gigs. As part of the International VR Expo conference, Bodega ia holding a VR music night with performances from some of our favourite Notts musicians. While we’re not too sure what this entails, we do know there’ll be a virtual reality booth from NOYS VR which will help create a fully immersive concert experience. Intriguing. We gorra admit, this one has peaked our interest. Maybe we’ll be seeing yer there…

International Women’s Day 2018: Rattle + SOS DJ’s + more
Oh Rough Trade, you’re always bringing us the goods. Pop in on Thursday for a special celebration of all the women in this world. Hosted by the Sisters of Sound Collective, you can expect musicians, DJ’s, artists and regular Rough Trade collaborators, all in aid of a worthy cause. Throughout the event, guests will be invited to write their thoughts on the #PressForProgress wall, share their selfie cards and simply exchange ideas on how to make positive changes for women. Also, the donation cost taken at the door and throughout the evening will be going to the Nottingham Rape Crisis Centre. Join the party and mek this International Women’s one to remember.
