A Selection of Elections: Votes, Suffrage and Reform

When? Friday 7 September - Sunday 2 December
Where? Weston Gallery at Nottingham Lakeside Arts
What? This exhibition digs deep into the historical archives to create stories of how elections unfolded in Notts starting in 1768 and ending in 1918, the year when some women won the vote. Get some niche knowledge to show off to your mates.

Introduction to Beauty and Craft in Japanese Culture

When? Friday 7 September, 6pm - 7.30pm
Where? Debbie Bryan
What? Bring your old battered and worn crockery to Debbie Bryan to grow a new appreciation for its imperfections and cracks. After a talk from Philosophy professor Ian James Kidd on the role of ceramics in the land of the rising sun, there’ll be an illustration mini-class and vintage crockery on sale. Coal Art Workshops

Where? YMCA International Community Centre
What? Learn how to make art with coal, while learning about the experiences of African Caribbean mine workers. Art works will be displayed in a big ol’ exhibition that’ll be touring the country. Add that to yer CV.

Intro to Free Machine Embroidery with Sarah Sewell

When? Saturday 8th September 10am - 1pm
Where? Curious? Nottingham
What? If your jeans are lookin’ patchy or in need of a pop of colour, you should give this class a bash. You’ll doodle away, then learn how to turn your artistic masterpiece into an embroidered one. Before you know it, your threads will be proper snazzed up.

Gin Picnic

Where? The Herbert Kilpin
What? There ain’t nowt more dainty than a bit of gin and a little picnic. The folks at Herbert Kilpin will be serving up four cocktails: Dorothy Parker Tom Collins, a FEW Breakfast White Lady, St George Terroir G&T, and finally a spit-roasted pineapple Gina Colada, as well as a traditional lunch. If that weren’t enough to get you into the spirit, they’re also doing a talk on gin too.

Buenos Treehouse

What? Playing five shows in one day – yes, you read that correctly – up-and-coming indie-pop group Buenos Treehouse are celebrating the release of their brand new single: Low. While you could see them at any of the five venues, we reckon the Angel is a good place to enjoy some drinks and good grub as you listen.

The League of Gentlemen - Live Again

What? Due to phenomenal demand, the BAFTA-winning early noughties TV show has reunited its cast to bring its fictional village to life and added an extra date to the tour. Catch this show before the upcoming Christmas special which will celebrate twenty years since its initial TV run. The comedians themselves describe the show as “something to do”.
