NTU Creative Writing Magazine Launch

Bursting with creativity, the Nottingham Trent creative writing cohort are launching a series of ‘little’ magazines this Wednesday. The three magazines Kairos, Snare, and Stem will be complimented with a launch event, taking place in the Newton building. Featuring a series of readings from the students and insights into their process, it’s the perfect place to discover new talent. With works ranging from poetry to short stories, there’s something for every kind of bibliophile.
Poetry Scum - A Working Class Spoken Word Event

Describing itself as Nottingham’s working class community event, Poetry Scum is a place for working class Nottingham poets to share their words in a monthly open mic event. Aiming to celebrate working class and activist art, the next event will be this Thursday at The Sumac Centre. To book the event you can drop Poetry Scum a message on Facebook or Instagram.

One of the five radio orchestras maintained by the BBC, BBC Philharmonic are one the UK’s finest orchestras, and they’re coming to Nottingham this Friday. Conducted by Ben Gernon and with Sunwook Kim on piano, the orchestra will be playing music from the iconic composer Franz Schmidt, alongside Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.
Hustle Cinematic: Black Speculative

Introduced by Kemi Alemoru, Black Speculative is a fantasy, speculative fiction and afro futuristic themed film screening. As part of an ongoing series of secret film screenings, the film will remain a mystery until the event but aims to bring together a series of diverse perspectives through the medium of film. With interactive visuals from Kim Thompson and live music from DJ NikNak and Benjamin Luhis, the night promises to be a fun and thought provoking one.

After their first indoor event last year, Detonate are returning to the arena with a new array of underground music. Featuring Chase and Status, Hybrid Minds, Holy Goof and Dimension (to name just a few), the night is ideal for any electronic music lover, or any party lover for that matter. Spread over your favourite indie venues, Beat The Streets is a music festival with a good cause. In collaboration with Framework, the donations from the event go toward helping Nottingham’s homeless community and raising awareness about this rising issue. Featuring 94 Gunships, Alice Robbins, Rob Smith (and many many more), the day never disappoints when it comes to a talented line up.
