This week, there's definitely no shortage of opportunities to indulge your artistic, theatrical and musical needs, from art at Richmond House to the return of the Foolhardy Folk Festival. Here are our Picks of the Week from 19 to 25 August.
When: From Monday 19 August to Tuesday 20 August
Where: Broadway Cinema
How Much: £12.20
This week, Broadway Cinema will showcase the first film co-produced between the UK and Palestine. Telling the story of a Jewish girl who moves from the UK to Jerusalem, the project comes from Nottingham based company Wellington Films, who for 24 years have produced independent films from around the world. A House Jerusalem is certainly set to put Nottingham on the map for UK cinema. Its first showing is an event not-to-be-missed.
When: Sunday 24 August
Where: Handmade Nottingham
How Much: £13.00
This chilled-out, creative event, intended as a queer and neurodivergent safe space, will be hosted at Handmade Nottingham, featuring mushrooms and goods from local business The Nottingham Forager. Attendees will need to bring their own materials, and will have two hours to draw all of the mushrooms that their hearts desire.
When: From Saturday 24 August to Saturday 31 August
Where: Richmond House
How Much: Free
Emily Catherine, the talent behind LeftLion's editorial illustrations and member of Beermat Doodles, will showcase her debut solo exhibition I Can Heal and Give You Art later this month. The event will look back on her varied career and showcase a plethora of creative projects, from album cover designs to charcoal portraits.
When: Sunday 25 August
Where: Broadway Cinema
How Much: £13.20
Playwrights, actors and former bartenders at Broadway Cinema, Emma Gray and Grace Carter, will this week undergo a career full circle as they launch their new play at Broadway Yeah, No, Fine. The two-woman play follows a writer attempting to finish a last-minute commission, and serves as a great showcase for Emma and Grace's comedic and improvisational talent.
When: Sunday 25th August
Where: Arboretum
How Much: £40.38
Nottingham's popular folk spectacular will return to the Arboretum this week, with a line-up stacked full of exciting and energetic folk artists including Will Varley, Black Water Country, Pet Needs and Dan Ottewell. Food and drink will be available throughout the family friendly festival, still one of the most beloved features in Nottingham's summer calendar.
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
