This week in Notts there are events catering for everyone from emo-fans, to local indie-gig-goers, to stage savants. Here are our picks of the week from 9 to 16 September.

Dear Evan Hansen 

When: From Monday 9 September 

Where: Nottingham Playhouse

How Much: From £9.50 

The Olivier, Tony and Grammy award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen will premiere its 2024 tour at the Nottingham Playhouse. Telling the story of an anxious high school boy, the production features some of the biggest musical theatre numbers of the last decade with this year's tour being the first to feature an ensemble. The premiere is set to be a huge event in Nottingham's theatrical calendar: one that's not to be missed.

American Football

When: Wednesday 11 September 

Where: Rock City

How Much: £34.75

Iconic Midwest Emo act American Football are visiting Nottingham this week, on the UK leg of a tour commemorating the 25th anniversary of their debut record. Re-released with a covers album featuring a diversity of emo influenced artists, the record is celebrated for its role in triggering an 'emo revival'. The band themselves are hugely proficient performers who count The 1975 among their fans.

Mary Lattimore

When: Thursday 12 September

Where: Metronome

How Much: £17.60

Los Angeles harpist Mary Lattimore will play Notts this week, currently touring her LP Silver Ladders, which was recorded around lockdown in an English surf town. Known for her experimental use of effects in her harp playing and her recording experience with artists like Jarvis Cocker and Sharon van Etten, Lattimore has made her name as a true master of her craft, and an instrumentalist not be overlooked on her rare visit to Notts.

Tim Peake: The Quest to Explore Space

When: Friday 13 September

Where: Theatre Royal and Concert Hall

How Much: From £27.50

Tim Peake's new show sharing the wonders of space travel will be held this week at the Theatre Royal, comprising stories from his own experience and his fellow astronauts, along with archive footage and audio-visual additions. As a follow-up to Tim Peake's previous tour, which sold out dates across the UK, this show is set to provide unrivalled insight into what spaceflight is really like.

Eyre Llew

When: Saturday 14 September 

Where: Bodega

How Much: £12.10

Local act Eyre Llew are set to headline the Bodega for a pivotal show in their journey as a band. Known for their dextrous playing and ethereal sound, the ambient-rock-four-piece will be playing songs from their upcoming, second full-length record, showcasing their prowess as seasoned performers that have toured internationally since 2017. Check out the show to see a beloved local group at the height of their prowess!
