Northern Ballet: A Christmas Carol

This week a grand, festive spectacle, also visiting Norwich and Leeds this Christmas, will come to Notts. The Northern Ballet's new production reimagines the classic Victorian tale of Ebeneezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, through dance, music and storytelling. With vivid staging and costume design, plus glowing reviews of November performances of the show, this will be an unmissable occasion for anyone looking for a theatrical dose of festivity and fun.

Band-of-the-moment, Irish poet-rockers Fontaines DC will bring their grand and psychedelic new show to Notts this week, ticking off the fifth date of their 12 show UK and Ireland tour. Showcasing their fourth record, the enormously talked-about experimental magnum opus Romance, the show will almost definitely stick in your mind if you're keen to check out the group GQ Magazine said are 'making bands cool again'...

Britpop heavyweights Echobelly are visiting Metronome this week, having just wrapped up the recording of a studio album with producer Danton Supple (of Coldplay, Patti Smith and Morrisey credits). The show is currently sold out, but if and when Gigantic release new tickets, this will be the perfect gig if you want to jump through a portal straight back to the 90s.

It's that time of the year again: this week, Notts Playhouse goes full panto, as they open a brand new performance of Jack and the Beanstalk, set to run until Saturday 18 January. Featuring one of the most iconic Notts dames John Elkington plus live music and spectacular special effects, this is a perfect choice for a Christmassy, family night-out.
730 Daily Self Portraits by Chaz Howkins

Since January 2021 artist Chaz Howkins has been creating daily self portraits, and now intends to continue to do so as long as they are able. Their huge portfolio work so far shall be showcased over at Surface this week. If you head along, and start feeling inspired to pick up the pen or paintbrush, you can join Chaz for a self-portrait workshop on 7 December.
