This week in Nottingham, festivities get into full-swing, as the Theatre Royal puts on some Christmas-themed show tunes and Bodega's annual Christmas Covers party returns for its 22nd year. Meanwhile, Lakeside Arts showcases a magical new stage show for kids and Malt Cross puts on a seasonal jazz night.

The Storm Whale

When: From 16 December to 5 January

This week will be the first full, seven days of Lakeside Arts presenting their magical new Christmas show The Storm Whale. Following the story of friendship between the son of a fisherman and a whale, and based on two books written by Benji Davies, this show is set to be a perfect, heart-warming wintry outing for young ones and their parents.

Crazy Little Sing Called Pub

Where: The Big Shed at Trent Navigation Inn

One of Nottingham's most welcoming community choirs is back again this week for a Christmassy edition. With event manager Abi Moore getting everyone singing some Christmassy pop rock anthems, there will also be hot food, mulled wine, cider, and other hot beverages provided. If you're looking for a good dose of Christmassy, community spirit, there are few better options than this.

Christmas at the Musicals

When: Thursday 19 December

Where: Royal Concert Hall

How Much: From £20.50 to £25

The glamour of London's West End comes to Royal Centre this week, as the West End Theatre Orchestra performs an array of showstopping songs with vocals provided by Stephanie McKeon, Alice Fearn, Jon Robyns and Scott Davies. Along with songs from musicals including Les Miserables and Wicked, there will be an array of festive hits to sit back and enjoy too.

Christmas Covers Party

When: Saturday 21 December 

Where: The Bodega

How much: £13.20

Now in its 22nd year, Nottingham’s legendary Christmas Covers Party returns! The ultimate night of musical fun, featuring Alex Hale & the Yule Lads, Cheap Dirty Horse, Content Provider, Family of Addiction, George Gadd + The Aftermath, Grain Mother / Deri Sharman, Tom Gensler, and Vanity Project and raising money for three great charities, Nottinghamshire Hospice, Zephyr’s and the Lucy Phillips Art Fund.

Gary Glover - Christmas Jazz Nights

Where: Malt Cross

Renowned local jazz pianist Gary Glover completes the second night of his festive residency over at the Malt Cross this Sunday. Accompanied by his band, Gary will perform a soulful and festive assortment of jazz tunes: the perfect accompaniment to some hearty scran from the Malt Cross' Sunday dinner menu. Head along for a cosy and memorable evening in the lead up to Christmas day.
