There's such a variety of events happening in Nottingham this week that we couldn't stick to five. Whether you're a David Bowie aficionado, a cinephile, a museum-goer or somebody invested in local politics, there'll be something for you...

The Bowie Show

When: Monday 27 January
Where: Theatre Royal and Concert Hall

Over at the Royal Concert Hall, audiences will be treated to a kaleidoscopic, multi-medium voyage into the mind of the boundary-pushing rock legend himself. From the Ziggy Stardust era, to the ambient, darkness of the Berlin era to the joy of Let’s Dance, attendees will be taken through the stages of David Bowie’s life through music, dance, elaborate costuming and vivid visuals.

Coming To England

Trinidadian-British actress, singer, presenter, author and politician Floella Benjamin came to England in 1960. In this joyful stage adaptation of her award-winning book, Floella’s story comes to life through music, storytelling and song, sharing her experience of overcoming adversity and racism to becoming Baroness Benjamin of Beckenham. A story much loved by children and families, adapted for the stage by David Wood.

True Romance on 35mm film
When: Tuesday 28 January
Where: Savoy Cinema

Throughout 2025, our city’s resident art-deco cinema, The Savoy is hosting ‘Films on Film’: re-showings of some classic drama and action films on stunning 35mm film. The series will start at the end of this month with a showing of True Romance, the classic Tarantino written action-romance guaranteed to start your year off with a bang.

BBC Introducing

Once again, showcasing some of the best musical talent in the midlands, hosted by the legendary Dean Jackson, this edition of BBC Introducing features Luna And The Lime Slices, The Glass Hearts, Ritho and Alice For Breakfast. Head down for a midweek fix of new music to spice up your playlists.

Want some inspiration for how you can make more of a difference in the world? Head down to this evening with Jon Alexander, author of the hopeful and inspirational book 'Citizens: why the key to fixing everything is all of us' and co-founder of New Citizen Project. Tickets are pay what you feel starting from £2, with options to also receive a signed copy of the book. This event is hosted by Resolve Nottingham, who last year took a petition to Downing Street to ask for a better deal for Nottingham following last year’s council cuts, and all proceeds go to supporting Resolve's work listening, connecting, and creating positive solutions for Notts. Art of Andalucia

After two stints of touring the UK, Ireland and Germany in the last two years, Flamenco musician Daniel Martinez is bringing his acclaimed show to Nottingham, accompanied by renowned dancers Angel Reyes and Gabriela Pouso. This show will definitely be a memorable and transporting one, promising a celebration of flamenco dance and a vibrant journey into the rich culture of southwest Spain.

Just the Tonic

More often than not, January is a month in which we're all in need of a belly, and there'll be few better sources for it this month than the return of Just the Tonic comedy club to Metronome. Presenting all the best up and coming headliners from across the board, it'll definitely be a highlight of the week. Featuring this Saturday are, Malawian-born Britain's Got Talent 2017 finalist Daliso Chaponda, Iran-born Patrick Monahan, Birmingham comic Karen Bayley and Yorkshire's Tom Wrigglesworth.

Exhibition launch party - Daniel Lind-Ramos: Ensamblajes and Allan Weber: My Order

Nottingham Contemporary launches two new exhibitions this Saturday: Allan Weber and Daniel Lind-Ramos - both artists' first major exhibitions in a European gallery. In My Order, Daniel Lind-Ramos explores the power of memory and storytelling with evocative sculptural assemblages that reflect Puerto Rican historical and contemporary experiences, while Allan Weber’s Ensamblajes features work across a range of mediums including assemblage, installation, sculpture and photography, practice acts as a vehicle to deconstruct the realities of daily life within the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
