Les Misérables - Let the People Sing

When: From Tuesday 27 May
Where: Theatre Royal and Concert Hall

This week, the Theatre Royal will host its first ever amateur production of the worldwide sensation. musical Les Misérables. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the show, and performed by the Nottingham Operatic Society, this production is one of eleven premieres of the musical taking place across the country and facilitated by producer Cameron Mackintosh. Featuring the legendary songs attached to the story like One Day More and I Dreamed a Dream plus a cast of 100 from around the East Midlands, it'll certainly feel good to say you were present at this spectacular highlight of Notts' theatrical Spring calendar.

Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf 

When: Monday 28 April - Thursday 1 May

This is bound to be a special one: to close out April, one of the most iconic and sometimes controversial names in UK comedy, Stewart Lee performs at the Nottingham Playhouse. His brand new show, featuring his trademark deadpan absurdism and topical meta-humour, sees him share the stage with a ‘tough-talking werewolf comedian from the dark forests of the subconscious who hates humanity.’ To find out if Lee can unleash his inner man-wulf to take on his comedy arch-nemesis Ricky Gervais, head along to watch for yourself.

Ghost Stories

When: Tue 29 April - Sat 3 May
Where: Theatre Royal

A spine-tingling theatre experience created by Jeremy Dyson (The League of Gentlemen) and Andy Nyman (co-creator of Derren Brown’s stage and tv shows). Professor Goodman is out to debunk the paranormal, by investigating three hauntings; as recounted by a night-watchman, a teenage boy and a businessman awaiting his first child. However, he soon finds himself both irrational and running out of explanations. This tour stars well-known faces like Dan Tetsell, Clive Mantle, David Cardy and Eddie Loodmer-Elliott. Hansel & Gretel - Northern Ballet

When: Tuesday 29 April
Where: Mansfield Palace Theatre

Tuesday sees the Mansfield Palace Theatre a host an imaginative new performance of Hansel and Gretel, for children, by The Northern Ballet. Reinterpreting the story through an environmental lens, this performance follows Hansel and Gretel as they take a trip through the forest, unaware of the damage they're leaving behind before they meet friends who teach them about looking after the planet. The team at Mansfield Palace Theatre have truly been making their name recently with a host of ever-creative stage projects, so if you fancy bringing your little ones along to enjoy their latest work, check this out.

Sneinton Avenues Vegan Market

If you're craving a good lunch or some fresh vegan produce this Saturday, you could do worse than visit Sneinton Market Avenues where the hugely popular (Sherwood) Vegan Market, organised by our old mate Adrian Bhagat, will make an appearance. Featuring both a diversity of food and craft stalls to browse, this market sees huge footfall during its regular appearance at Sherwood United Reform Church. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, head down this weekend where you will be greeted by attractive scents, tastes and hopefully some rejuvenating Spring sunlight.
