Emily Brontë: A View from the 21st Century with Claire O’Callaghan

When: Tuesday 9 October, 7pm
Where:
Five Leaves Bookshop
What:
Lecturer Claire O’Callaghan from the University of Loughborough is popping by Five Leaves to give a talk on her new book, which looks at Emily Brontë’s classic Wuthering Heights in light of themes such as feminism, gender and sexuality. Good stuff.

Amplify Festival 2018

When:  Tuesday 8 - Saturday 13 October
Where: Nottingham Playhouse
What:
A range of shows, workshops, and work in progress theatre pieces, supporting and showcasing artists from the East Midlands. There’s plenty of talent to catch, including Panya Banjoko’s Soetry and Pink Lemonade by Mia Johnson, a multi-disciplinary solo show which explores masculinity and lesbianism through spoken word, sound and movement. All together there’s twenty shows to see, so there’s bound to be summat for everyone.

Women in Music

When: Wednesday 10 October, 6pm
Where:
Rescue Rooms
What:
An evening of panels and talks addressing the gender imbalance in the music industry, and how to improve it. The event is open to all, and there will be knowledgeable speakers from the BBC and Creative Quarter. All proceeds from the event are donated to Equation, a Notts charity tackling domestic and sexual abuse.

Mayhem Film Festival

When: Thursday 11 - Sunday 14 October
Where:
Broadway Cinema
What: Just in time to prepare yourself for the spookiest night of the year, Mayhem Film Festival is returning to Broadway with a lineup that’s full of the good stuff. Although it was founded in 2006, Mayhem comes back each year with a more diverse and awesome list of indie horror, sci-fi and cult films. There’s director Q&A’s, premieres, masterclasses, international guest speakers and even an early screening of Nicholas Cage’s new film Mandy; it’s supposedly good, making it the most truly shocking event this Halloween. Tuck in, duck.

Live Music for #WithLeeWeFight

When: Every Thursday, 7.30pm
Where:
Lillie Langtries
What:
People around the city are still doing their best to support producer and DJ of Elementz Studios, Lee White, and raise money for his potential life changing treatment in Germany. And Lillie Langtries, down South Sherwood Street, are no different. Each week, they’ve got local musicians coming in to mek some noise and collect some coppers for #WithLeeWeFight. They’ve got a wicked lineup for the next few months, so make sure to get down there when you can.
